"How can I intercrop cowpea with maize?

One needs to plant medium maturing/full season maize with early/medium cowpea.
Plant cowpea 10 days after maize for best yield and grain quality.
Planting Method:
Maize -1m between row, 50cm within row, 2 plants/hill
Cowpea - 40cm-20cm- 40cm between rows and 20cm within rows -2 plants/hill.
Apply fertilizer to maize.
Spray cowpea against pests as recommended
Control weeds manually.
